Fix You

Fix You, Coldplay

“Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.”

Fix You is generally one of my favorite Coldplay songs. Every word has meaning. More often than not, I cry listening to it. But this line, this one particular line, touches my heart above all others.

I imagine myself in darkness after a rather tough experience. I don’t know where I am and I don’t know which direction to start walking. But then I realize that there are people with me in the darkness. I can’t see them until they, one by one, start lighting green lights to guide my way. I see various people from my life just standing there, forming a path. I discover that I’m at the bottom of a mountain. The people are scattered even on the rocks of the mountain itself, showing me the way. They smile. Whenever another green light is turned on, I see a smile. It’s peaceful. And finally I see a path. Needless to say, I am moved. The energy they give me ignites my bones … inside and out.
I take the first step down my path.

The guitar solo at the final part of the song … it is electric blue and so invigorating. Regardless of the lyrics, it’s like the whole song was quiet and sad, and then it suddenly wakes up. It almost jolts me awake. It’s like the way light swirls in the water when you’re looking at it from down below. The music moves in the same way: light making its way through the deep waters.
